Mixed Media Projects

RGBM, exhibition

RGBM consists of a poem and four collages. Each collage is made up of photography, mostly taken on my phone, and experimental painting. The collages are representations of my experience with red (light), green (leaves), blue (water), and magenta (sky) in nature. The poem is handwritten to further personalize the works. My intention is for the work to be an extension of my perception.

This exhibition studies association and perception. I am drawn to vivid colors in nature. Red, green, blue, and magenta are created from reflected light or natural pigments. My wish is that the viewer leaves this show more sensitive to colors around them.

I began this project in 2021. Upon reading Charles Baudelaire’s poetry, that animated color, I began to write about colors’ identities. There’s something special about writing about natural color, something entirely visual. Natural colors are intangible and ephemeral. The exact shade of color or one’s emotional reaction is difficult to capture. In poetry, one’s own perception is automatically attached to the colors. Illustrating natural beauty is inherently emotional. Most people share understandings of a range of colors, yet there is no universal way of describing them. Therefore, reacting to colors is a representation of human sensitivity and appreciation of divine nature.

Isolation Diary

During Spring of 2020, I wished to create a time capsule. At this beach, I was empowered, liberated, and healed. My writing captures the presence of nature.

Dollhouse - SCAD / Parsons

Dollhouses represent an idealized version of a child’s home. As a refugee, the idea of bliss is an ideal.

Reloaded - Parsons

This is a take on Menesunda Reloaded, Marta Minujin, New Museum, 2019. It evokes America’s consumerist culture.
